I met a lot of decent people in vsAI, most of them are 30+ year-old who are mature, kind, polite and stable in mood/feelings. I started to love HOTS not because it is easier, (in fact it is not, in some angle). I switched to HOTS just to casually have fun every evening with my buddy and only play vs AI. You see people still leave (And never come back) even in a top MOBA. I used to be a Dota player and sort of a serious player, I always played ranked and got to divine rank which can be seen as Diamond here in HOTS, but then I burnt out because of the stressful games with the addition of toxic community and also my age caught up on me, at 27 year old I felt like I could keep up with at most 3 games per day, and then 1, and then 1 game per week and then I quit. So my expectations for the game have matched that. TL DR - Slow decline in cadence revealed things were wrapping up. There's still much for one person to do in this game. Since the announcement I've gotten joy out of trying new heroes I never touched before, trying strange builds I've never tried, team comps that shouldn't work. The news obviously still hurt, but it wasn't a huge shocker. Or at least just number tweaks going forward. So, for the 5 or 6 months preceeding the announcement, I was kind of expecting it. It was a slow, steady decline that set my expectations extremely low. Patches got smaller and smaller, we lost Nexus Anomalies, the bi-monthly reworks became fewer and fewer, until there were none. It was clear that things weren't looking good.
The following dev near-radio silence a few patches later changed that.
Hogger brought a lot of hype, and things looked like they would be slow but sustainable for a long time.
